A Message from the Potentate
I
want to thank everyone who braved the cold, snow, and slick streets to attend
the annual January Stated Meeting. The turnout was rather slim, but those
who attended got a glimpse into the plans for 2008. We are off and
running!
I attended a hospital board meeting at our hospital on January 14th.
It was the first one I have attended and very interesting, to say the least.
The amount of information covered at this meeting was awe inspiring. It
was done well and very professional. I did learn a lot. At the
meeting, El Katif Temple was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and we
have been named Temple of the Month for January 2008. What an honor for
all of us!! I was honored to accept the award on behalf of all of El Katif,
because this isn’t a one person show. We all deserve the recognition for
outstanding support of the hospital.
Unfortunately, our membership numbers have dropped below the 1300 level.
We are now officially at 1263. Nobles, we need to change this by keeping
the members we currently have and to recruit new ones. Our membership
chairman, Bob Dunlap, has lots of new ideas for us to raise the numbers to a
more reasonable level. They were presented at the annual club and units
seminar. We hope everyone will participate.
The Potentate’s Ball was a lot of fun. We had a good turnout for the
dinner and band was super. I hope all had a good time and made it home
safely.
Most of the elected Divan will be attending the winter session of the PNSA.
This will be held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the 14th and 15th
of February. This is a business session and just the “guys” will be
going, which means most of the elected Divan this time.
Watch for information in the near future about the trip Lady Luanne and I are
planning for August. We will be making presentations on the 18th
and 19th of February at a location near you. This will be a
great trip, but a rather quick one, about 12 days.
A visit of the Shrine to Spangle Lodge will be held on Wednesday February 20th.
This has become an annual event, and much thanks goes to the members of Spangle
Lodge for their efforts and hospitality. All Masons are invited, leave the
fez at home.
The February meeting will be a “normal” stated meeting, with the usual Units
Heads meeting at 5:30. See information elsewhere in the Word for the menu.
I hope to see all of you there, and in the meantime remember who you represent.
Roger
Gehrig, Potentate
