As Potentate of El Katif
Shriners, let me welcome you to
our face on the web.
Like our great nation, 2012
brings changes to El Katif
Shriners as we continue to “Keep
Looking Up” to the future. We
continue to keep looking up
toward building ourselves a new
home, providing family friendly
activities for our members,
continuing to support the Shrine
Hospital Mission and serving our
communities. We strive to
demonstrate to the public that
to be a Shriner is a great honor
earned by good men.
Our members are called Nobles.
We use terms based on our
group’s historical nature. When
first organized in New York
State, Shriners adopted the
colorful clothing and language
of the Middle East for dramatic
ceremonial fun. We, as members
of the Ancient Arabic Order,
Nobles of the Mystic Shrine,
continue this tradition today.
We have been in existence in
Spokane and Eastern Washington
providing fun and a positive
presence for more than 100
years. We are fortunate to have
one of the finest Shriners
Hospitals in the entire Shrine
Hospital System in our own
backyard, our Jewel on the
Hill.
The members of our Clubs and
Units of El Katif Shriners
support our mission and are
extremely visible in Eastern
Washington. The area that we
operate in is extensive. Our
nobles can be found from the
Canadian Border on the North, to
the Idaho border on the East, to
the Oregon Border on the South,
and to mid-state on the West.
We are proud to say that for the
last 90 years, Shriners, (men
who live in your neighborhood),
have provided for the finest
children’s medical service of
orthopedic, burn, cleft pallet,
multiple dystrophy, and cerebral
palsy care available. Today,
this premier care continues to
be provided for children up to
age 18. The Shriners Hospital
System is known worldwide as the
finest philanthropic service.
This is all accomplished by your
neighbors who are proud to call
themselves Shriners. Shriners
are Masons who have taken to
heart the mission of ensuring
this medical care regardless of
a family’s ability to pay. We
genuinely care about our
communities and our nation. We
give of our time and open our
own wallets to ensure Shriners
Hospitals also “keep looking up”
and provide this care for
decades to come. Shriners and
you make it happen,
everyday!
One way that our local group of
Shriners asks for your help is
through our community “Duck
Race”. El Katif Shriners’ annual
“Duck Race” fundraiser
exclusively supports our Spokane
Unit of Shriners Hospitals. You
may be asked to buy a Duck Race
Ticket for this event. Please
consider saying “Yes”. The
proceeds from this fundraiser go
directly to helping patients
travel to and receive care at
our Spokane Shriners Hospital
Unit.
You will see us wearing those
“funny hats” (we call them our
Fez) or “Clowned Up” as we ride
in numerous civic parades, run
our fair booths, and clown
around in an untold number of
community activities.
We proudly say, "We
ride/parade/and play, so
Children may walk/run/and smile
one day!"
We are men that love our
families, our country, and our
God! Please visit our website
often and know us by our fruit.
We will “Keep Looking Up” for
2012.
If you have questions, please
feel free to contact us. When
you see us driving our little
cars, motorcycles, marching, or
clowning around in parades-
smile, wave and understand that
we do these things for a greater
good, the health care of
children everywhere. |
