El Katif Shrine "Legion of Honor"

The EL KATIF SHRINE “LEGION OF HONOR” was established 31 years ago in February 1988 and is a very active part of the 88 year old International Association Legions of Honor. Its purpose was to promote camaraderie among Military Veterans, Retirees and Active Duty Personnel, while showing support for our Military, our Country and our Freedoms, and to provide cheerful service to our Shrine Center and Potentate.

Acting at the request of the Potentate, we are the Official Honor Guard, presenting the Shrine International and National Colors for parades, ceremonials, Shrine Circus and installations. At various times we are called on to present the Flag of our Country at public events, and to bereaved families of our fallen Veteran Comrades-In-Arms. The Washington State Veterans Cemetery has scheduled monthly appearance of the “Legion of Honor”.

The LEGION OF HONOR sponsored its first ever Shrine Hospital Screening Clinic for Children in 2000 at Fairchild Air Force Base. We screened 18 children and referred 15 to receive care at our hospital. The following year we became Preferred Providers for Tri-Care Insurance, eliminating the need for screening clinics at Fairchild AFB. In 2003 we held the first screening clinic at the clinic in Davenport, WA.

For years we have served coffee and cookies to weary travelers at area rest stops on Interstate I-90.

Finally, we come to the one event that over the past 20 years has been recognized as our premier event – The Annual “MUSICAL SALUTE TO VETERANS” Show, in November to commemorate Veteran’s Day. It takes the effort of every member of the “LEGION”, and many others outside of the LEGION to make it work, but it’s well worth it.
